It’s really disappointing to me the way the show has taken so many of its female characters. GRRM has one of the best fantasy-novel depictions I can think of of what it’s like to be a woman in a world that is overwhelmingly geared to hate women—I can get the argument that not all fantasy worlds need to be ones that hate women, but he has some really important and interesting social commentary, commentary that often goes deeper than just the surface level (Cersei and Arya’s relation to their femininity is really compelling to me in particular). They’re characters that resonate with me and that I really respond to. And I think the vast majority of those nuances have been lost in translation. Some of that is inevitable, just because of the scope of television vs. thousand page novels. But certain things just seem so callous, like having Asha Greyjoy call Theon a “c-nt” to demean him when in the novels, she specifically muses on why it is that men think that has to be such a demeaning term. Or having Brienne tell Jaime that he’s whining like a woman, when in the novels, she talks about how she thinks more songs need to be written about the bravery of women and their strength. It sucks to watch. It speaks to laziness in screenwriting. — AV Club commenter tzero (via isnthesweet)

But actually, after a very long time, if it keeps going, the water will eventually shape the rock. You don’t realize it at first but it’s happening, it happens every second. Yes, you’re the water, but if you can’t see how you changed the universe, it doesn’t mean you didn’t.
